Season 2 “The Spin”

Devil and Gandhi

Yup, there’s nothing better (or worse) than having a comedic duo having to deal with a third wheel. Luckily, this third wheel spun right off and out the door. I am glad I got to make a reference to the mysterious rash of deaths concerning beloved pop-psychiatrists, which wraps up the Orphan Train storyline (if you you can call that a storyline!). And I felt a little bad making the final episode of this season a blatant attempt to spin-off a character that has just made a first appearance, but I needed a final page, and what better way to end a season than to tease a new series.

In 2015, I will be working on a long-form comic entitled Shakespeare Jung. The original title of the comic project was STEAMTRUNK! which even had it’s own website, complete with logo and Twitter account (http://steamtrunkcomic.com/), but I switched the title to what will be the main character, Shakespeare Jung. Shakespeare is young, some would say too young to be the Director of STEAMTRUNK (see, I kept the name), but someone has to defend against events and people who would wipe our our world’s culture. Think of Doctor Who meets Quantum Leap meets Mark Twain (literally!), at least for the first volume. It will be science-based, although speculative science, revisionist-historical, and I will be attempting to make it all-ages. And I won’t really start posting pages until I have the entire first volume plotted and thumbnailed. And don’t expect color. I think I will keep it black and white in the hopes of some day doing a Kickstarter to print it and maybe hire a colorist.

Thanks so much for reading The Devil & Mr. Gandhi! Season 3 is already in production, including some crossover episodes with the talented folks over at Holidaze Comics. If you’ve read any of their comics (click on the link below to check them out), you’ll understand why The Devil & Mr. Gandhi will be dropping by their establishment.

And as far as personal appearances go, I will have physical printed copies of Issue #1 and Issue #2 at The Small Press Expo (SPX) this September in Bethesda, MD. If you are around, stop by my table. I will have some other goodies that have not been seen here or on The Ink Puddle. Thanks again, and see you next season!

  1. At first I wasn’t sure if the Steamtrunk spinoff was a brilliant meta-gag, but it’s true, isn’t it? Well, I can’t wait to see it. Nice job wrapping up the Orphan Train story with a completely unexpected turn of events.

    • Thanks, Vince. I am not even 100% sure if the train connection was intentional or not, but I’ll take what I can get. And if there is one thing you can expect with this comic, it is expected punchlines, and unexpected turns of events. See you next season!

  2. SO much fun! I’m looking forward to the All-Ages Shakespeare Jung comic, Pat.

I plan to hire a colorist for my comic too. If/when I come across a great one, I’ll let you know. Currently, the going rate is about $30 a page. Save yer pennies! :OP
